Pałac Mierzęcin

The beautiful restored palace, the associated old factory and the big park around are a perfect organised wellness and wine resort, with a wide range of sport and leisure facilities like fitness zone, bowling, horse riding, golf course, billiard tables, restaurants and special children attractions.

The main building, the Pałac Mierzęcin (Schloss Mehrenthin in German) was built between 1861 and 1863 by Robert Friedrich von Waldow, member of the German owner family. It is built in English Neo-Gothic style, surrounded by a vast landscape park with idyllic views. The Second World War left the palace and manor nearly untouched. Between 1945 and 1952 the palace was used as an orphanage for handicapped children. Later all palace rooms and the manor complex became a mixture of offices, a kindergarten, a country after-school club, workers' flats and utility rooms. Between 1991 and 1998 palace and manor deteriorated and were finally purchased by a Polish company. Between 1999 and 2001, thanks to the efforts of the new owners, the palace was thoroughly renovated. The neglected park was partly replanted and a nice Japanese garden installed.

The main restaurant is the Restauracja Destylarnia, the Distillery Restaurant. It became the winner of the Grand Award - the highest award in the Poland 100 Best Restaurants 2014 competition. I had an awesome dinner there, sitting beneath a big old industrial steam engine with its huge transmission wheels and belts.

All these photos are shot with Hasselblad 203FE and Distagon FE 4.0/40.
